Work Study

College Unbound is excited to offer work-study opportunities for currently enrolled students who have a valid FAFSA on file for the year. Work-study offers flexible hours, usually between 5-10 hours/week, as students work directly with members of the College Unbound Staff. The wages are $20/hour.

Please review the job descriptions below. Students who are interested in one of the available work-study positions should email the Financial Aid department at [email protected] for more information. Students must have a current year FAFSA on file. Hours are determined between the student and the supervisor and can be adjusted to meet the student’s academic and personal needs and availability. Work-study students will work with the College Unbound/Met HR department to fill out I-9 and W-4 forms. Check with Allen Cowett for more information on that front.

Current Positions:

Moodle Accessibility Support: This position (5-10 hours a week) will work with the Director of Faculty Development & Innovation to help review, recommend, and create support materials and resources for learning and teaching in Moodle around accessibility.  

In this role, students should be comfortable with learning about Moodle and other institutional tools (Google Drive, Zoom, etc), problem-solving, and being able to self-direct as needed.  Training around accessibility will also be included as part of the role.

Hours worked can happen from any location, though a consistent schedule will be needed to meet the 5-10 hours a week and meetings with the supervisor.

Administrative Assistant, Ye’s Center for Healing and Development: The Administrative Assistant works as an integral part of clinical service delivery. The Admin Support Person will work 10 hours/week. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Welcome participants as they enter the building, offer them a seat and alert clinician that the Participant has arrived.
  • Cover front desk, take calls and messages, respond to community members who enter the building looking for staff members or seeking knowledge about services offered.
  • Call clients to schedule appointments with clinician, speaking to them in a professional caring manner.
  • Print out electronic referrals and file them.
  • As needed, make copies of documents, group materials, consent forms, and keep them filed in organized manner.
  • Ensure standards of confidentiality and do not share participant information with others inside and outside the organization.
  • Ensure standards of confidentiality by alerting the Director if employee has a relationship with a participant, or has had previous involvement with a participant in another arena.
  • Monitor participants insurance coverage and alert Director if it is invalid.

Development Associate: You will learn an amazing fundraising skillset that you can apply to your project, work and volunteer/passion activities! Development work-study students will help the development team with making CU even stronger through raising funds. Activities include sharing your story with donors and foundations, researching funding opportunities, and writing thank you letters to donors. You will also work collaboratively with the development and communications team to plan and execute giving campaigns. Other duties as assigned. Hours are flexible with some meetings during the workday.

Tech Support: College Unbound is looking for individuals to provide technical support to students accessing and using college resources, including e-mail accounts and the learning management systems. If interested, you do not have to have experience providing tech support. You just need to be comfortable with technology and patient and friendly when supporting members of the college community and the ability to problem solve as well as communicate the details of unsolved issues to others. You also need to be able to work some evening hours, though this can be done remotely.

Office Administrative Assistant: This position is available during regular work hours (8:30am-5pm) to support office logistics and meeting preparation, working closely with the CU Staff. The Other duties as assigned.

Student-Parent Coach: Student-parent coaches offer holistic support for student-parent peers through a variety of support services. These services for success could include in-person babysitting services, being a doula for expecting students, monitoring the student-parent Moodle resource page, providing 1:1 virtual coaching or facilitating support groups, and hosting monthly workshops for our student-parents at CU. These work-study roles work directly with the Assistant Dean of Student Success to determine the role and scope of this opportunity. Whether you sign up to do babysitting or 1:1 coaching, all roles work to be a coach, one that accompanies other student-parents to successfully navigate their way through the college. Note, for those offering babysitting services, this cannot be during the night you are enrolled in class.

Recruitment Support: The CU Recruitment team is looking for a number of students to assist the Recruitment Team as we bring more great students to College Unbound. Duties include outreach, follow-up, and administrative tasks. Other duties as assigned.

Office Administrative Assistant, Black Lives Matter RI: BLMRI is looking for a student who will be the face of the organization. They will greet folks and direct them as needed. They will answer phones, take messages, and work directly with the Executive Director to respond to his emails and keep his appointment calendar.

Lab Faculty Support Assistant: Lab Faculty work-study students will assist the Director of Workplace and World Lab Learning with administrative tasks such as organizing calendar invites, a bi-monthly newsletter, Lab faculty welcome packets, onboarding, training, exhibition planning, and student features for social media/ CU communications. Students will work collaboratively with the Academic Affairs and Communications team to plan and execute in-person and online training and projects. Other duties as assigned. Hours are flexible but include weekly meetings during the workday.

TA2BA Support Assistant: TA2BA students will assist the Director of Educator Preparation of TA to BA Program (a collaboration between College Unbound & Equity Institute) with administrative tasks related to the TA to BA program such as organizing calendar invites, a weekly newsletter, training, exhibition planning, and student features for social media/ CU communications. Students will work collaboratively with the Academic Affairs and Communications team to plan and execute in-person and online training and projects. Other duties as assigned. Hours are flexible but include occasional meetings during the workday. Preference given to those with teaching experience and/or part of the TA to BA program.

Library Support (2 Positions Available): This position (5-10 hours a week) is set up to help CU maintain and develop library resources and opportunities.  This roles include the following activities and others as discussed:
  • Updating the current CU book catalog
  • Developing a lending system for students and faculty
  • Data entry of learning materials into a resource database
  • Scanning documents and sending them to the appropriate people
  • Brainstorming with the supervisor to continue to improve library support at CU
  • Help to maintain the CU Library Resources website
Some hours may be required at the Justice Building at the Met School in Providence and that can be discussed and determined.  The majority of the hours do not need the student worker to be in the office but can work from different locations.

Student Ambassador: College Unbound is looking for a dynamic group of current student leaders who are willing to share their unique CU experiences with prospective students, families, and community members. Primarily looking for two students per PA/NJ partnership (Aspira, El Centro, Camden, PHA Residents, PHA Employees, PHMC, and SDP).

Responsibilities:
  • Engage with prospective students about College Unbound via college fairs, community events, and Open Houses.
  • Assist with referring prospective students to College Unbound.
  • Assist lab faculty with setting up in-person cohorts, when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned, that assist with connecting prospective students to College Unbound.

Finance & Human Resources Assistant: College Unbound is looking for a student to assist the Controller and Human Resources. This position is (5-10 hours per week) during regular work hours (9:00am-5:00pm). This role includes the following activities and others as discussed: 
  • Scanning, uploading, and storing files within a database 
  • Finance clerical work: making copies, scanning documents and filing 
  •  Data entry
