College Unbound has been granted approval for accreditation and is now recognized as a peer institution by all other colleges and universities.

We are thrilled to announce that the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) has granted approval for Accreditation to College Unbound. This recognition is the gold standard of achievement for institutions of higher learning. The NECHE accreditation is further assurance of the quality and standard of education College Unbound provides to its students.

It is a testament to the hard work of the CU team, the remarkable talents of our students, and the national need for colleges that are student-led.

College Unbound became Rhode Island’s 13th college in 2015 in a unanimous vote by the Rhode Island Council of Postsecondary Education. In 2019 CU received eligibility to provide federal financial aid, enabling students to qualify for Pell grants and other financial aid options. Eighty-eight percent of College Unbound’s first independent class of students completed their degree and 75 percent completed degrees within 4 years of starting at CU.

College Unbound’s leadership could not do this alone. CU has created a network of committed community partners, passionate staff and board members, who include a diverse group of higher education reformers, funders, and innovators. A sincere thank you to everyone.
